Mission Highlights
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Experimental Chemist to serve as the critical validation link for our AI-generated chemical candidates. Your mission will be the subject matter expert responsible for the end-to-end process of Atomic Layer Processes (ALP), specifically the design, experimental deposition and characterisation of surfaces/thin films on both powder and hard surfaces. You will also be essential in guiding the design of new precursors to optimise the surface/thin-film performance for an end application.
This role is central to Entalpic’s vision of closing the Sim2Real loop in materials discovery. You will bridge AI-predicted coating candidates with hands-on validation in a high-growth, high-autonomy startup environment.
Reporting Line & Localization
You will report to the Director of Lab and Material Innovation and be located in Grenoble, France.
Role & Responsibilities
Lab Setup & Equipment Operations
Lead selection, installation, and maintenance of ALD systems (powder and planar).
Define and implement safety, calibration, and operating protocols in collaboration with the Lab Manager
ALD Coating Process Development
Develop, optimise, and run ALD coating processes for diverse applications (e.g. battery electrodes, catalytic surfaces).
Design experiments and characterise films
AI Collaboration & Data Feedback
Validate AI-generated coating candidates through experiments and structured data reporting.
Provide critical feedback and experimental data to the AI/ML and computational teams to refine predictive models, accelerating the discovery loop.
Lead Internal and External Projects
Provide the technical support in the set-up of both client projects and grant applications.
Develop a budget and timeline for the experimental phase of the project.
Key technical interface with the client.
- Operate comfortably in a dynamic, changing environment, adapting rapidly to emerging business challenges and opportunities.
Expertise & Skills
PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, OR an MSc with significant (5+ years) relevant industrial experience.
5+ years of hands-on Atomic Layer Deposition experience in a research or industrial setting.
Proven ability to develop new coating recipes, optimise and adapt across different substrates (powder, films & foils).
Familiarity with battery, catalysis or semiconductor applications.
Demonstrated ability to function as an independent experimentalist and project lead.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a joyful, proactive, and solution-oriented approach.
